Two weeks ago, I chopped a decent amount of my hair off for the first time in almost five years. For the last few years, I’ve been dedicated to growing my hair as long as possible – and I did! This past summer, my hair was the longest it’s probably ever been. I had endless styling options, and I loved how it looked. But after a few months spent at the beach and in the sun, the ends were basically destroyed. My hair was long, yes – but it also looked dead. Around the summer, the shorter, more medium-length hairstyle started to get super trendy. I watched some of my favorite famous heads of hair, like Kim Kardashian, Lucy Hale, and Lauren Conrad, snip off their long locks for a long bob. I started to want the long bob, which looks chic, glam, fresh and different.
Its been some time since my last hair tutorial, and since my style has inevitably evolved since then, I figured we were overdue for an update. Lately I have been into really unruly hair ~ the messier the better. And since my tresses were not blessed with any sort of natural bounce (see the cringeworthy realness, above left), I have developed a quick and uncomplicated system for infusing maximum movement.
When the messy bedhead look, with its cool, undone texture, skyrocketed to the top of every must-try beauty trends list, we were all excited. Among the most excited? The girls who wake up with that natural texture on a daily basis—with just a spritz of texturizing spray, they were set. But those with fine, stick-straight tresses were decidedly absent from that wash-and-go group. However, super-straight hair can achieve roughed-up texture—it just takes a little more coaxing. We enlisted celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin to show us how its done.
If you want to rock your short hair, but also want it to look polished and defined, use a curling iron as your secret styling weapon. If you have super-tight coils, use a very tiny curling iron to create definition, and if you have larger curls, opt for a larger-barrel iron to make your texture more defined.
Its a little bit layered, a little bit tousled, and completely chic: Kim Kardashians got one, Taylor Swift is rocking the look, and Kate Mara too. Sorry pixie cut, the long (almost messy) bob has replaced you as the celebrity hairstyle du jour. Though seemingly effortless, we know these locks dont just fall in perfectly undone waves without a little help. So we enlisted Jen Atkin, celebrity hairstylist to the stars including Kim K, to let us in on the secret behind the no-fuss, shoulder-grazing look. Though "choppy" may be a word that comes to mind, Atkins suggests not using it at the salon as it means something different to every stylist. Instead try "textured" because its more about the finish and the feel. The length should depend on your face shape, but somewhere between your collar and right above your chest is ideal. After you have washed out your salon style, follow these steps to get the textured bob at home. Hint: This look works even better on second-day "dirty" hair.
A bob is a simple hairstyle that is easy to cut and modify. This style is most often used on short, straight hair. But you can have a bob cut if you have long or curly hair. As a hairstyle, a bob cut is easy to style and maintain. If you are an ambitious home hair-cutter, you can cut your hair into a basic bob. You should gather the necessary supplies so you can cut the bob properly and then follow a few simple steps to get the bob look.

If your mum ever took to a pair of scissors and a bowl to give you a trim, we understand that the thought of cutting your own hair could be the last thing on your mind. All you need to know is how to cut your own hair like a pro. Follow these easy step-by-step guides from hairstylist, and learn how to cut your own hair.
Side swept bangs fall at a diagonal to one side and are flattering for any face shape. Unfortunately, side swept bangs need maintenance to look their best. You will need to trim yours about every 2-4 weeks, depending on how fast or slow your hair grows. Learning to style your own bangs will save money on both the initial cut and save you time by avoiding frequent touchup trips to the salon.
Layers can freshen up a hairstyle and give the illusion of volume. The layered look is flattering for any face shape, and it works equally well with straight or curly hair. Read on to learn how to prepare your hair for layering, cut it, and give your look the final touches it needs to look professional and chic.
DIY haircuts can be disastrous. Many of us have a horror story about those late-night, wine-fueled baby bangs that quickly became a colossal hack job — snip by tiny snip — and required an emergency trip to your stylist, where you cried, groveled, and begged for forgiveness.
